Learning Garden opens this Saturday

Nadja’s Garden is proud to support the Learning Garden at Warradale Community Children’s Centre, which officially opens this Saturday at 10am. The garden was designed by Nadja’s Garden during 2012 in consultation with staff at the centre and was successful in obtaining support from a Coles Junior Landcare grant.

Preschoolers at the centre now participate in regular gardening activities and children of all ages explore the garden with their families on their way to and from the centre each day. The garden provides a wealth of learning opportunities relating to food, nutrition, ecological awareness, seasons and caring for living things.

This spring and summer the children have grown pumpkins, tomatoes, beans, capsicums, herbs, flowers and passionfruit, have enjoyed garden pickings in their lunches, and have got the fruit trees off to a flourishing start. The ornamental elephant has also become a local favourite! And centre staff now recycle food scraps and office paper through the compost to replenish the nutrients in the garden.

This Saturday Nadja’s Garden will provide fundraising activities at the centre’s 20th anniversary party.
